Get the most out of your cleanse
Prepare well beforehand, focus on supporting your liver by drinking lots of water with lemon and eating meals that are easy to digest and not rich or heavy. Try not to fall into the trap of having a massive blow out because you’re starting a cleanse tomorrow!
Lay the ground work
A good way of doing this is by focusing on specific elements of your nutrition like good gut health and eating 100% organic food. By choosing organic you’ll already be eliminating toxins on a big level and boosting your gut bacteria with fermented foods or probiotics will help your immune system and digestion.
A juice cleanse can be tough mentally and a bit of a challenge if you’re new to detoxing. Think positive thoughts, remind yourself of why you want to do this, cherish your health and your body and set the tone for your upcoming cleanse by thinking positive and confident thoughts.
Yes, you heard us. A lot of people think a juice cleanse should be combined with intense exercise to maximise the benefits. If you’re a seasoned detoxer then fine, you do you, but if you’re new to the game then take it easy. Skip the HIIT workout and choose long walks and yoga to ease yourself in.
Listen to your body
It’s important to do what’s right for you. A lot of people prefer to include a soup into their cleanse as it helps them stay focussed on their goal whilst still giving their digestion a rest. If you feel instantly fantastic then by all means, get those hard greens in, but don’t feel like you’ve failed if you need to supplement with a soup or light, plant-based meal.
Your juices don’t have to be all you consume in a day. Help your body flush out toxins with lots of warm water and herbal teas if you fancy. Especially in the winter it can be helpful to include some warm drinks into your day too. Think about purchasing some of our Trio Shots to add to hot water in the morning.
Ease into it
Congratulations! You did it! Now before you go rushing back into your everyday routine think about the journey your body has just been on. Introduce solid food slowly and calmly, don’t reward yourself with a big meal. Instead, go for soups, stews and simple food to ease your way back in.
Just like during your cleanse, try not to go hell for leather right away but instead listen to your body and do what you feel is right. If you’ve just completed a 3 or 5 day cleanse that’s quite a while on a lower calorie intake. You might think you can manage a Barry’s Bootcamp class but perhaps save it for a day or too.
Pat yourself on the back
The mental strength needed to complete a cleanse can be quite something. Let yourself feel a sense of accomplishment and achievement at reaching your goal, it will stand you in good stead for the life challenges to come.
