The world of wellness is booming. Finally taking time out to focus on yourself has become the “in” thing to do. Retreat comes from the Latin word “retraho”, meaning “to pull back”. And this, is exactly what retreats set out to do; pull you back from your normal, busy world and put all of your energy into one place. They’re the ultimate wellness opportunity! So, we’ve complied our favourite three…
- The Thailand Retreat with Tyrone Brennand
Tyrone Brennand (an awesome guest on our podcast, click here to listen) is the founder of the Chelsea-based, personal training service “Bethefittest”. Training sessions can take place wherever you want in London – whether this be out in a park or in the comfort of your own home. But this year, Bethefittest have brought the art of getting into shape to a whole new level. They’re hosting an incredible retreat on the beautiful Thai island of Koh Samui. What better way to get to fit?! Taking yourself away from the hustle and bustle of London for a week, to purely focus on kick-starting your health and fitness journey with the guidance or Tyrone and yoga guru, Sara Otto.
You’ll be pushed through fitness exercises, strength training, running, yoga, meditation, you name it. Not only does the retreat include the training schedule, but it also includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks each day which are made with fresh, local, organic produce (predominantly vegan/vegetarian based). Since food impacts your energy levels, this is something that the retreat seriously focuses on – in order to better your quality of life and keep your energy levels up for the training programme. There’s even an on-site juice and coffee bar. What are the rooms like? Imagine a beachfront, eco-friendly room, steps away from the salt water pool – heaven!

You’ve probably never heard of a retreat like this. It’s one for the mums out there. A week-long retreat in an 18th Century farmhouse, near Lake Garda, Italy… with your baby! That’s right; it’s designed for the two of you. The founder of the retreat, Eliza, is a mum herself. She has worked in many high-pressure jobs around the world and wanted to create a sacred space for both “mamas” and “babas”. The accommodation provides you with elegant, spacious apartments with private terraces that overlook the vineyard sunsets.
You can expect total relaxation here with morning yoga, facials, massages, manicures, inspiring guest speakers, time to chill in the pool and don’t worry – there’s childcare for up to 8 hours a day with a 2:1 child-childcare ratio for small babies. Do you need to bring along baby toys? Nope! There are some provided by the retreat but the main focus is on immersion in nature. Food? Seasonal speciality meals, fresh fruit, homemade cakes, organic smoothies, local wines, special dinners out and even a pasta making class (this is Italy after all).
Date: 10 dates available in April, May, June, September and October
Price: starting from €2000
- Balance Retreats
Reset, recharge, realign – that’s what ‘Balance Retreats’ are all about. During this retreat you’ll focus on nutrition, education and yoga in order to make you feel healthier and stronger. 2018 brought a body-balancing retreat in Marrakech but 2019 brings a new destination – the Greek island of Mykonos. The team aim to restore gut health, with the help of our good friends Rhythm Health Kefir and to cleanse the liver with their Mediterranean, nutrient dense meals (plant based, of course).
The wellness professionals? You’ll have naturopathic nutritionist/yoga teacher, Bridget Hancock and yoga teacher/conditioning instructor, Kathy to get you through your stay. Not only do these two wonderful women aim to teach you how to reconnect with your body through yoga, meditation and body conditioning (you can expect a few of these classes each day) but you will also experience cookery demos and talks on topics such as natural skincare and nutrition so that you can bring this knowledge home with you, to set you off on your health and wellness journey. Venture away from the retreat on a boat trip to Delos, the sacred island and birth place of the Goddess Artemis and Apollo, the God of Light. If lots of yoga, massages, strolls on the beach, great food and sunsets take your fancy, then you know what to do…
