Staying Energised

This blog post on energy couldn’t have come at a better time with this insane heat wave we are experiencing in London. Oftentimes it feels so much harder in the heat to stay focussed, energetic and motivated. In this blog post we're sharing our top tips on how to keep your energy levels up whilst sweating buckets. Who needs a pick-me-up?!

Stimulants

First thing’s first, don’t just reach for the coffee. Now don’t get us wrong, we love a good brew but increasing your intake of diuretics like iced coffee and tea on a hot day will only dehydrate you further. Try an iced turmeric frappe from CPress (shameless plug, #sorrynotsorry), or opt for cold water with some fresh lemon in, mint leaves and berries.

Similarly, if you’re feeling the slump, don’t just jack yourself up on sugary snacks. The damage we can do to our adrenal glands through constantly increasing our blood sugar, requiring our bodies to produce insulin to take it back down, has serious long term health consequences. Needless to say, if you’re already a 2 coffees in the morning, HIIT workout, sugary smoothie, another coffee later on and some more sweet snacks kinda person, then you might already be feeling the effects of adrenal fatigue.

Life Hack: Our top tip when it comes to sugar is to eat some fat alongside it, as fat significantly reduces the speed at which sugar is metabolised in your body giving you less of that blood sugar spike effect.

Breakfast

The most important meal of the day for a reason. Our cortisol levels are naturally highest in the morning and by skipping breakfast you’re just adding to this cortisol burden. Eat a balanced meal that contains protein and healthy fats and this will help to maintain constant energy levels throughout the morning until your next meal. Sugary cereal, granola and too much fruit will have you crashing down mid morning. The same applies when it comes to lunch if you want to avoid that afternoon 3pm slump, load up with good quality protein, fats and complex carbohydrates.

Move More

When you feel the tiredness coming on at work, stop and think: When was the last time I got up from my desk? Walk around the office, do a few yoga poses (if you can get away with it!), or go for a brisk lunch time walk (in the shade), as this will help to increase oxygen flow around your body and keep your cells working an optimal level.

Drink More Water

Heard it all before haven’t you, so just do it then! We can’t stress this one enough, get 2 litres or more of clean, purified water a day and you’ll really notice a difference to your energy levels, clarity of mind, digestion and pretty much everything.

Natural Aids

And if none of that’s working you can try some more natural aids that will hep to give you that extra little burst of energy. Try ginseng, matcha tea and ginger. If there’s one thing that will really wake you up it’s a ginger shot from CPress! Don’t say we didn’t warn you…
